The National Catholic Safeguarding Commission produced a leaflet intended for victims of abuse, recognising their needs and encouraging them to come forward. The leaflet grew out of a recommendation from the Cumberlege Report i.e. Recommendation 53 which states:
"The Church should encourage those who have been abused by someone working in the name of the Church to come forward and disclose the abuse."
The essence of this recommendation has been reflected in statements from both Pope Benedict and Pope Francis emphasising the priority to be given to victims and survivors of abuse.
The leaflet was approved at a meeting of the Bishops Conference in 2012. The recently revised version is available in your parish and via your Parish Safeguarding Representative and also as a pdf download here.
