Advent 2025, A Season of Waiting, Wonder and Preparation
Advent invites us into a deliberate slowing down, a short, sacred season of waiting charged with hope. As we count down to the Nativity, these weeks give us space to prepare our hearts for the coming of Our Lord, Jesus Christ.
We await Christ in three beautiful ways: we celebrate his birth at Christmas, we welcome him anew into our daily lives this season, especially in the Eucharist and we keep watch for his promised return at the end of time. Each of these comings reminds us that God’s love is already at work among us.
The word “Advent” comes from the Latin adventus, meaning “arrival” or “coming.” It marks the beginning of the Church’s liturgical year; in 2025 we enter Cycle A. This time is therefore both a beginning and a preparation, a pattern of prayer, reflection and waiting that shapes the whole year ahead.
Use this season to breathe, reflect, and prepare: light an Advent candle, read a short daily Scripture, spend a quiet moment before the Blessed Sacrament, or offer a simple act of kindness. Small practices like these help make room in our hearts for the One who comes.
