Bishop David ordained Mr Gerard to the permanent diaconate on Saturday 18th September at St Columba’s Catholic Church in Chesham. Gerard was joined at the ceremony by many family, friends and invited guests.
Bishop David reminded Gerard during the service of the humbly, yet vital role deacons play in the spiritual life of a parish saying,
“We are never the centre of attention ourselves…we are nothing more than foot washing servants (of the Lord)”
Speaking to the parish after the service, Deacon Gerard said on behalf of himself and his wife, Sue
“This could not have happened without your unconditional love, prayers, and support. We would like to thank you for all you have done for us over the years and the work undertaken to make the ordination and reception such a joyful and blessed time”
Deacon Gerard will now serve the parish of St Columba’s, Chesham, whilst joining the team ministry across the parish of Immaculate Heart of Mary, Great Missenden. Pictures from the ordination can be viewed here
