Bishop David has appointed Fr Brendan Seery as the new Chancellor for the Diocese of Northampton. Fr Brendan succeeds Monsignor Sean Healy who will be stepping down as chancellor after 14 years in the role.
The diocesan chancellor provides information and advice to the Bishop and other curial staff on the effects of canon law in pastoral practices. He shares, through delegation from the Bishop the responsibility in dealing with applications for dispensations and permissions, and the administration of the sacraments.
Fr Brendan has been appointed following a distance-learning study programme at KU Leuven in Canon Law. He has already achieved an MA in this and will hopefully gain the JCL this summer.
Bishop David said
“My congratulations to Fr Brendan for his commitment to a demanding programme of study whilst also being fully engaged in pastoral ministry. This is no mean feat!”
Fr Brendan will take up this role as soon as he completes his canonical studies in the summer.
