Fr Tony Whitfield RIP

It is with sadness that we advise that Fr Tony Whitfield died earlier today at Kettering General Hospital; may he rest in peace.

Fr Tony Whitfield was a convert to the Catholic faith. Soon after his conversion he felt a call to priesthood and was sent to All Hallows College, Dublin to begin his studies. He was ordained in 1979 and spent four years at St Thomas Aquinas, Bletchley. He then went to Luton, to Our Lady’s Castle Street, and spent five years as an assistant to Fr Paddy Crowe. He was made a parish priest in 1988 and replaced Fr David Woodard at Holy Name, Oundle. The next sixteen years of his priesthood were spent at Oundle where his quiet and dedicated service was much appreciated. On his retirement he continued to live close to Oundle, in Corby, and he was well known in the parishes in the area through his willingness to supply for both Masses and the sacrament of confession.

Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord
And let perpetual light shine upon him
May he rest in peace

May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed
Through the mercy of God, rest in peace
Amen
