Sunday 21st January, the third Sunday in ordinary time marked Sunday for the Word of God in the Catholic Church. This Sunday was instigated by Pope Francis on the Feast of St Jerome in 2019.

The Focus of this Sunday is the Bible, the Word of God and parishes across the world are encouraged to highlight the Word of God amongst us with particular emphasis on celebration, study and dissemination of the Word.

Bishop David led a Bible Service in Northampton Cathedral in which Fr Simon Penhalagan, Dean of Northampton Cathedral preached. He highlighted the need to believe the “Love Story written to us by God”.

Pope Francis hopes that “Devoting a specific Sunday of the liturgical year to the word of God can enable the Church to experience anew how the risen Lord opens up for us the treasury of his word and enables us to proclaim its unfathomable riches before the world”
