Eighteen men considering a possible vocation to the priesthood gathered at St Augustine’s in Milton Keynes for a special Vocations Discernment Day organised by the Diocese of Northampton’s Vocations Director, Fr Pius Amoako.

The day provided an opportunity for those exploring a call to priesthood to spend time together in prayer, reflection and conversation, while learning more about the life and ministry of a diocesan priest.

The discerners were joined throughout the day by five priests, two seminarians and a deacon, who shared their own experiences and offered encouragement and guidance to those considering where God may be calling them.

Beginning at 10am, the day included time for prayer, talks, discussion and fellowship, creating a relaxed and welcoming environment in which participants could ask questions and speak openly about their hopes, experiences and sense of vocation.

The day concluded with an hour of Eucharistic Adoration from 4pm to 5pm, giving everyone the opportunity to place their discernment before the Lord in prayer.

“It was a wonderful day,” said Fr Pius. “It was a real joy to welcome so many men who are open to discerning God’s call and to accompany them on this important journey.”

For anyone who has ever wondered whether God might be calling them to the priesthood, a Vocations Discernment Day offers an opportunity to take that first step: to come, listen, pray and discover where the Lord may be leading.

The Diocese continues to encourage anyone considering a priestly vocation to speak with the Diocesan Vocations Director and to give themselves the time and space to discern God’s call.
