Children from the North Bedford Catholic Community came together this summer for a joyful week of faith, friendship, creativity and fun at the NBCC Summer Camp 2026.
Organised by the parishes of Holy Cross, Bedford, and St Philip and St James, the camp took place at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Goldington, Bedford.
This year’s camp had a particularly special focus, with Our Lady of Walsingham providing the theme for the week. Through activities, prayer and reflection, the children were encouraged to learn more about Our Lady and the significance of Walsingham as a place of pilgrimage and prayer.
There was certainly no shortage of things to do. The children took part in dance, singing, signing, arts and crafts, acting and outdoor games, as well as spending time together building friendships and enjoying each other’s company.
The creative activities proved especially popular, including the ever-popular cookie craft. This year, the children created little houses inspired by Our Lady’s House in Walsingham, linking their creativity with the theme of the camp.
Alongside all the fun, prayer and the Sacraments were at the heart of the week. The children celebrated Mass, spent time in Eucharistic Adoration and had the opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation. They also took part in a beautiful Marian procession, giving them an opportunity to honour Our Lady together as a community.
As the week progressed, the children also prepared for their end-of-camp performances. Their hard work, enthusiasm and creativity culminated in a brilliant Friday performance, bringing together many of the skills and activities they had enjoyed throughout the week.
There was, of course, plenty of time for food and fellowship too, including a much-enjoyed pizza lunch!
The NBCC Summer Camp was a wonderful opportunity for children to grow in faith while experiencing the joy of Christian community. Through prayer, the Sacraments, creativity, games and friendship, the week offered a memorable experience of what it means to live and celebrate faith together.
As the organisers reflected at the end of the camp: “May it give Glory to God.”
And with such a joyful week of faith and friendship, there is much for which to give thanks. Our Lady of Walsingham, pray for us!
