On Sunday at Our Lady of Walsingham Catholic Church in Corby, Canon Mark Floody prayerfully blessed the newly prepared Crown of Advent Chaplet beads and accompanying Novena prayer cards. This simple yet deeply symbolic moment marked the diocesan beginning of our journey toward the Nativity of the Lord.

The chaplet, created especially for this initiative, weaves together the seven titles of Christ found in the O Antiphons; Wisdom, Lord, Root of Jesse, Key of David, Radiant Dawn, King of the Nations, and Emmanuel. These ancient names, drawn from Scripture and sung by the Church from 17–23 December, form the heart of the Crown of Advent Novena, which begins on Tuesday 17 December and continues through Christmas Day.

Canon Mark reflected on the significance of praying with the chaplet in these final days of Advent, encouraging the faithful to “prepare a place in our hearts for the coming of Christ, allowing these prayers to draw us into deeper hope, peace, and joyful expectation.”

Throughout the nine days of the Novena, the Diocese will offer daily reflections, prayers, and devotional resources, guiding parishioners in a shared spiritual journey as we await the rising of the true Morning Star.

To take part fully in this diocesan devotion, we warmly invite you to sign up to receive the daily Novena emails, delivered directly to your inbox each morning.
