Cafe 1850 in Northampton is celebrating after receiving the highest possible food hygiene rating following a visit from environmental health officers on Friday 7 August.
The café, located within the Cathedral complex, welcomed inspectors as part of the regular food safety assessment process and was awarded a five-star rating, the top rating available under the Food Hygiene Rating Scheme.
The Food Hygiene Rating Scheme, operated by local authorities in partnership with the Food Standards Agency, assesses businesses across key areas including food handling practices, cleanliness and the condition of facilities, and the management of food safety procedures. A rating of five recognises the highest standards of compliance and demonstrates that a business is managing food safety effectively.
The latest achievement builds on Cafe 1850’s strong record for food hygiene. Previous published records show that the café received a five-star rating following an inspection on 1 October 2021, with inspectors recording good standards in food hygiene, cleanliness and food safety management.
The team at Cafe 1850 continues to provide a welcoming space for visitors to the Cathedral, offering hospitality, refreshments and a place for people to gather. The latest five-star rating reflects the ongoing commitment of staff and volunteers to ensuring that everyone who visits can enjoy food and drink prepared in a safe and well-managed environment.
The café’s continued focus on quality, hospitality and care for visitors is a valued part of the life of the Cathedral community and the wider Northampton community.
