The Cathedral in Northampton is seeing a remarkable resurgence in online participation, with livestream figures reaching their highest levels since the Covid lockdown of 2020. Over the past six months, weekday Masses are now attracting an average of more than 100 online viewers, while Sunday Masses regularly draw between 400 and 500 people joining remotely.
These encouraging figures highlight the continued importance of digital ministry in the life of the Diocese. For many parishioners, including the housebound, the elderly, and those unable to attend in person, the Cathedral livestream remains a vital spiritual lifeline, enabling them to pray, worship, and remain connected to the diocesan family.
The Cathedral began livestreaming liturgies in 2017, making it one of the first cathedrals in the country to do so. What began as a forward-looking pastoral initiative has since become an established and fruitful part of diocesan life. The recent growth in viewers reflects not only changing patterns of engagement, but also a renewed desire for prayer, reverence, and connection in an increasingly digital world.
As the Diocese continues to invest in both in-person and online ministry, these figures stand as a powerful sign that the reach of the Cathedral extends far beyond its walls, bringing the celebration of the Mass into homes across Northamptonshire and beyond.
