On Monday 29 September, Caritas Social Action Network (CSAN) hosted the online launch of the Youth Version of Love the Stranger. The launch comes just days before the Jubilee for Migrants and the World Day of Migrants and Refugees (4–5 October 2025).`
Originally published in 2023 by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales, Love the Stranger offers a Catholic response to refugees and migrants, setting out 24 guiding principles rooted in Catholic social teaching. The document has been widely endorsed by the Holy See, COMECE, CAFOD, CSAN, and Caritas member organisations.
The new youth edition, produced in partnership by Caritas Brentwood and CSAN, has been specially designed for older teenagers. It provides a formative resource that helps young people reflect on migration in the light of faith and respond with compassion and justice in their communities.
Siân Thomas-Cullinan, Director of Caritas Brentwood, said:
“At a time when fear can dominate the headlines, this resource invites young people to choose a different path of welcome and understanding. We hope that this resource will inspire a generation to recognise that when we welcome others, we welcome God and in doing so become beacons of hope in our own corners of the world.”
Deacon Jim Hannigan, Diocesan Director of CARITAS, added:
“This powerful new resource for young people has been launched at a time when it is more important than ever to highlight how as Catholics we should respond to the challenging issues of migrants and refugees. It has been developed to help young people understand the Church’s teaching and to encourage them to act as positive role models within their schools, parishes, and communities.”
