The Diocese joins the community of St Joseph’s Catholic School in mourning the death of their much-loved Headteacher, Mrs Murphy, who passed away yesterday evening following a period of illness.

Mrs Murphy gave 26 years of devoted service to St Joseph’s, leading the school with deep faith, compassion and an unwavering commitment to every child entrusted to her care. Through her gentle but determined leadership, she shaped not only academic life but also the spiritual formation of generations of pupils, nurturing a community firmly rooted in the Gospel.

Her kindness, wisdom and dedication left an enduring mark on pupils, staff and families alike, and her loss will be felt profoundly across the St Joseph’s community, past and present.

The community will gather in prayer this week, asking God for grace and strength at this time of sorrow. Staff will offer sensitive pastoral support to pupils and one another, mindful of the emotional impact of this sad news.

St Joseph’s held a special place in Mrs Murphy’s heart and in the life of her family. Both of her sons were educated at the school, and it remained a cherished community for them all. The Diocese asks for continued prayers for her husband, Graham; her sons, Darren and Alex; and their wives, Francesca and Ruby.

Those wishing to send cards of condolence to Mrs Murphy’s family may do so via the school office, where they will be respectfully passed on.

We commend Mrs Murphy to the loving mercy of God and give thanks for her life of faithful service.

Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon her.
May she rest in peace. Amen.
