The Diocese of Northampton has officially begun the discernment process for the pastoral area of Luton, inviting all the baptised to reflect on their missionary calling and the future of the Church’s presence in the area.
Bishop David, who was present at the gathering to launch this process, reminded the faithful that every baptised Catholic is called to be a missionary disciple. He urged participants to embrace this time of discernment with openness, warning against cynicism and instead encouraging a deep trust in the Holy Spirit.
“Our baptism calls each of us to share in the mission of Christ,” Bishop Oakley said. “This is not a task for a select few, but a responsibility given to all of us. We must allow the Holy Spirit to guide our reflections and decisions, resisting the temptation to approach this process with doubt or discouragement.”
The discernment process will focus on listening, prayer, and action, ensuring that the pastoral area of Luton continues to be a place where the Gospel is lived and shared. The diocese invites all Catholics in the area to take an active role in shaping the Church’s mission for the future. Further details on upcoming meetings and ways to participate will be shared in due course.
