A special farewell Mass and lunch were held on Tuesday 17 June to honour the dedicated service of Tony Bishop and Joe Richardson, the Strategic Executive Leads of Our Lady Immaculate Catholic Academy Trust and St Thomas of Canterbury Catholic Academy Trust, respectively.
The occasion took place at Bishop’s House, where Bishop David Oakley celebrated Mass in his private chapel. He was joined by Fr Simon Penhalagon, who con-celebrated the liturgy. The intimate gathering brought together senior figures in Catholic education across the Diocese of Northampton.
Also in attendance were Catherine Davies, Chair of Directors for St Thomas of Canterbury Trust, and Christopher Donnellan, Chair of Directors for Our Lady Immaculate Trust and Pauline Cuddihy, the Director of Education for our diocese. They were later joined for lunch by Fr Christopher Perry, Episcopal Vicar for Education, and Canon Michael Harrison, Vicar General of the Diocese.
During his homily, Bishop David reflected on the day’s readings, focusing on 2 Corinthians 8:1-9. He emphasised the call to generosity and the grace of speaking with love—even in the most challenging of moments. His words offered a timely encouragement for all present, especially as the two departing leaders prepare for new chapters in their journeys.
Tony Bishop and Joe Richardson were warmly thanked for their leadership, collaboration, and service to Catholic education. Their contributions have left a lasting legacy within the two Trusts and across the wider diocesan family.
