The third week of the Life in the Spirit seminars at the Diocese of Northampton drew participants deeper into the heart of Christian renewal, focusing on the powerful theme of New Life in Christ.
Guest speaker Abhy Thomas delivered a stirring reflection, inviting everyone to rediscover the joy and freedom that comes from living in the power of the Holy Spirit. Abhy reminded us that through Christ, we are not just called to be “better” versions of ourselves — we are invited into a whole new life, marked by freedom, forgiveness, and transformation.
Abhy reflected on the words of St. Paul: “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, behold, the new has come” (2 Cor 5:17). He emphasized that this new life is not about human striving or willpower, but about receiving God’s grace and allowing the Holy Spirit to work within us.
Participants were encouraged to reflect on areas in their own lives where they long for healing, freedom, or a fresh start. Abhy shared personal stories of how he has experienced this new life and highlighted practical ways to open our hearts more fully to the Holy Spirit, including prayer, Scripture, and the Sacraments.
The evening closed with a time of quiet prayer, as the community invited the Holy Spirit to deepen the work of renewal begun in each heart. Many participants shared how they were touched by the sense of hope and joy that comes from knowing we are God’s beloved children, reborn in Christ.
As we move into the next session, we continue to pray that the Spirit will keep stirring hearts and renewing lives across the diocese.
The Life in the Spirit seminars continue each week — all are welcome!
