On Tuesday 20th May, the second session of the Life in the Spirit Seminars took place live at Northampton Cathedral and was streamed to parish hubs across our diocese. The evening featured a powerful and deeply personal talk by Dr Maria Heath, Director of Mission Northampton (pictured above with Bishop David), on the life-changing theme of Salvation.

Maria opened with a scripture from Hebrews 12:1–2, reminding us to “run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith.” Her central message was both simple and profound: you are the joy set before Jesus — the reason He endured the cross. In her words: “Jesus gave up heaven to come and save you. The joy set before Him was you.”

With clarity and conviction, Maria unpacked the reality of sin — the selfishness that places ourselves at the centre — and the transformative power of Jesus’ death and resurrection. She reminded us that salvation is not just a theological idea, but a personal gift freely offered: “Jesus died for you. He rose for you. And that changes everything.”

Maria also shared her own moving testimony of discovering God’s love at a low point in her life. Her vulnerability and witness showed how an encounter with Jesus can lead to deep healing, the restoration of relationships, and a new way of living — life in the Spirit.

Whether you joined in person or online, this session was a powerful reminder that salvation is not abstract — it’s a relationship, it’s healing, and it’s for you.
