The Diocese of Northampton extends its sincere gratitude to two longstanding contributors to diocesan safeguarding efforts, who are now stepping back from their roles after many years of dedicated service.
Fr Andrew Behrens, who has served as clergy advisor to the safeguarding team since 2006, is stepping down from the role. Although not an official member of the Safeguarding Advisory Board (SAB), Fr Andrew has been a constant and valued presence, offering insight and support over nearly two decades. He will be succeeded by Fr Gregory Marchwinski, parish priest of Kettering.
Kathy Franklin, also involved in diocesan safeguarding since around the same time, is stepping down as a member of the SAB. However, she will continue to contribute her wisdom and experience as part of the Victims and Survivors Group. Reflecting on her time on the board, Kathy said, “It has been a privilege to sit on the advisory board. As safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility I will remain a part of this team.”
Diocesan Safeguarding Coordinator Danielle Dixon offered heartfelt thanks to both Fr Andrew and Kathy: “I have always been grateful for their steadfast support over many years.”
The Safeguarding Advisory Board (SAB), established in 2021 as part of the Catholic Church’s revised safeguarding structures, provides independent and professional advice to the diocesan safeguarding department and the Safeguarding Subcommittee. The board’s membership includes professionals with backgrounds in policing, social care, and health, ensuring a comprehensive and expert approach to safeguarding. Its work is rooted in the values of competency, equality, justice, and transparency, offering guidance on safeguarding concerns, risk management, and training.
The Diocese offers its prayers and appreciation to Fr Andrew and Kathy as they continue to support safeguarding in new ways.
