Forming Missionary Leaders for the Diocese of Northampton

The Diocese of Northampton’s pioneering Bethsaida Leadership Course, a year-long, mission-focused formation programme for emerging and aspiring leaders, has marked a significant milestone. The first cohort concluded its foundational year this past weekend (15–16 November) with a rich and reflective residential at Kents Hill Conference Centre in Milton Keynes.

Designed for those currently serving in leadership or discerning a deeper call to lead within the life of the Church, the Bethsaida course focuses on forming confident, mission-driven disciples who can help shape a dynamic and outward-looking diocesan community.

As the inaugural year draws to a close, Mission Northampton is now actively recruiting for the January 2026 cohort. Participation is by application only, ensuring that each candidate is ready for serious formation and committed to becoming a leader capable of strengthening the missionary life of the Church.

This year’s introduction of applicant interviews has already proven invaluable, helping potential participants fully understand the depth of the commitment and the transformative nature of the journey ahead. The programme is intentionally limited to just 12 places, creating a close-knit learning community rooted in trust, accountability, and personal growth. Four places remain, and with interest growing, early application is strongly encouraged. Applications close at the end of November.

The impact of Bethsaida is already evident in the voices of those who have experienced it first-hand:

“I have found the Bethsaida Leadership Course self-transformative… Over time this has helped shape my character and self-identity. I have become more trustworthy, and capable of influencing others to seek out meaningful change.”

“Before starting the course I was already confident in my leadership abilities… However, this course has helped me mature and strengthen my skill set, as well as giving me a framework for understanding Church-led leadership and how to align my personal leadership style with diocesan and parish goals.”

“This course not only helps you grow personally but will also transform you to become a valuable asset to your parish and the wider diocesan mission.”

“If it’s in your heart to do this, absolutely apply. It will give you the confidence to move forward on your faith journey and inspire others.”

If you feel called to grow as a missionary disciple, to lead with clarity and courage, or to help renew the Church through your gifts, Bethsaida may be your next step.
