Across the Diocese this past Sunday, 30 November, parish communities gathered to celebrate the First Sunday of Advent, the beginning of a new liturgical year and a season of joyful anticipation.

Churches were filled with a renewed sense of expectation as the first candle of the Advent wreath was lit. This candle, symbolising hope, shone brightly as a reminder of God’s promise and the coming light of Christ into our world. In homilies and prayers, clergy invited the faithful to enter this sacred season with hearts open to renewal, watchfulness, and trust.

Many parishes marked the moment with special blessings of wreaths, family Advent activities, and music that echoed the theme of hope. The illuminated candle served as a powerful sign that even in times of uncertainty, Christ’s light remains steady and sure.

As we continue our Advent journey, the Diocese encourages all the faithful to carry this message of hope into their daily lives, preparing not only our homes and churches, but also our hearts, for the coming of the Saviour.
