The Holy Father, Pope Leo, has announced a Franciscan Jubilee Year to commemorate the 800th anniversary of the death of St. Francis of Assisi, one of the Church’s most beloved saints. The Jubilee will run from 10th January 2026 to 10th January 2027, inviting the faithful worldwide to follow the Saint of Assisi as models of holiness and witnesses of peace.

During this extraordinary year, the Apostolic Penitentiary grants a plenary indulgence, under the usual conditions, to those who participate devoutly in the Jubilee. This celebration represents a natural continuation of the Ordinary Jubilee of 2025, offering a unique opportunity for spiritual renewal and deepened Christian witness.

The Jubilee Year is especially directed towards members of the Franciscan Families, including the First, Second, and Third Orders (both Regular and Secular), as well as Institutes of Consecrated Life, Societies of Apostolic Life, and other associations inspired by the Rule of St. Francis. However, the grace of this special year is extended to all the faithful, including those unable to travel. Pilgrims visiting any Franciscan church or site dedicated to St. Francis can receive the indulgence, while the elderly, sick, or homebound can participate spiritually by joining the Jubilee prayers and offering their sufferings to God.

In marking eight centuries of Franciscan witness, the Diocese warmly invites all the faithful to actively engage in this exceptional celebration. St. Francis, who embraced poverty and humility to become a true alter Christus, serves as a timeless example of Christian charity, peace, and concord. By walking in his footsteps, the faithful are called to transform the hope of pilgrimage into active charity and evangelical witness in today’s world.
