Residents at St Scholastica’s Retreat, Princes Risborough, enjoyed a wonderful evening of food, fellowship and fundraising as they came together to support CAFOD’s work with communities around the world.

The event was organised by the Retreat’s new Warden, Lincoln, and his talented wife, Hilvia, who prepared a delicious Sri Lankan feast that was greatly appreciated by everyone attending, despite the summer heat. Guests also enjoyed a raffle with a fantastic selection of prizes, helping to raise an impressive £220 for CAFOD.

Among those invited were parish CAFOD volunteers Marie and Sue from St Teresa’s Parish, Princes Risborough, together with Deborah Purfield, CAFOD’s Community Participation Coordinator for the Diocese of Northampton.

Deborah spoke about CAFOD’s mission to support people living in poverty and communities affected by conflict, climate change and humanitarian emergencies. She explained how CAFOD works alongside trusted local partners to provide both emergency assistance and long-term development programmes that enable people to build better futures.

Thanking everyone for their generosity, Deborah said: “Be assured that your support will make a difference to our brothers and sisters globally.”

Founded in 1861, St Scholastica’s Retreat has a long and distinguished Catholic heritage. Originally established in Clapton, East London, before relocating to Princes Risborough in 1972, it continues its mission of providing sheltered accommodation for Roman Catholics of limited means aged over 60. Situated within easy walking distance of St Teresa’s Church, the Retreat remains a vibrant Catholic community where faith, prayer and neighbourly support are at the heart of daily life. The residents’ generous support for CAFOD is a fitting expression of the Church’s call to stand in solidarity with our sisters and brothers throughout the world
