On Tuesday 2nd July, seminarian’s Chris Colaco and Oliver Patton were instituted as an Acolyte at St Mary’s College, Oscott. The ministry was conferred by Bishop Richard Walker, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Birmingham. Fr Pius Amoako, Vocations Director for the Diocese of Northampton, was also in attendance to support Chris on this important occasion.

The ministry of Acolyte is an important step on the path to priesthood, entrusted with assisting at the altar, distributing Holy Communion, and fostering deeper devotion to the Eucharist. It is also the final lay ministry before the reception of the major order of the Diaconate.

Chris reflected on the occasion, saying: “The journey continues. Please keep me in your prayers.”

In December 2025, God willing, Chris will be ordained a transitional deacon — the final stage of formation before priesthood. Following his ordination, he will leave the seminary and complete his training by serving in a parish of the Diocese.

Please keep Chris and all our seminarians in your prayers as they continue to discern and prepare for priestly ministry.
