The St Thomas Centre in Northampton welcomed a lively and inspiring group of young people this week as members of the St Vincent de Paul (SVP) group from St Thomas More Catholic School, Bedford, spent the day planning and preparing future projects of service.

The students, who are active members of the SVP youth programme, were warmly greeted by Elaine Hayworth, the National President of the SVP and was recently appointed as the Chief Operating Officer for the Diocese. She shared insights into the nationwide mission of the Society and offered encouragement for the group’s developing leadership in service.

Accompanied by Mr Bonner, School Chaplain, and Mrs Lovesey, Assistant Headteacher with responsibility for Catholic Life, the students explored practical ways they can support the vulnerable, respond to local needs, and deepen their understanding of the Vincentian spirit. Their time at the Centre included discussions about new outreach ideas, collaborative diocesan initiatives, and creative approaches to fostering a culture of compassion within their school.

The visit concluded with a moment of prayer and reflection as the group renewed their commitment to the SVP mission of “turning concern into action.”

The Diocese extends heartfelt thanks to the staff and students of St Thomas More School for their enthusiasm. Their shared commitment is a powerful reminder that young people are not only ready to make a difference, they already are.
