During the month of October, a number of additions were made in the development of The Healing Garden at the Northampton Cathedral.
On 18th October, a concrete base was laid in the garden. Marking the first step towards the installation of a gazebo planned for Spring 2026, subject to further funding. Once completed, the gazebo will offer a welcoming space.
Just a few days later, on 22nd October, we were delighted to move forward with our plans to improve the corner area near our Cathedral. This improvement was made possible by the generosity of the Northampton Town Council’s Bloom start-up fund. This contribution has helped bring more colour and life to our Healing Garden!
‘It is great to see how many people make use of the garden, of all ages, in different ways. We are especially thankful for the many donations we have received towards the ongoing development of the garden which we hope will be of benefit to all who visit’
Danielle Dixon, Safeguarding Coordinatior
In other news, we are hopeful to launch a Wellbeing Gardening group. Studies have shown that engagement with nature, including gardening, can lead to improved physical health, reduced stress and enhance mental wellbeing. The purpose of the Wellbeing Gardening group is to provide an opportunity for time to be spent in the fresh air, building friendships and a sense of community, as well as supporting the work of the gardener in helping to maintain the Healing Garden through tasks such as tidying, watering, weeding. Our aim is to establish the group as a 2026 volunteer project. Please get in contact with the Chair of the Healing Garden working group using remembrancewall@northamptondiocese.org or safguarding@northamptondiocese.org if you would like to express an interest or find out more information.
