A peaceful sanctuary designed to offer comfort, reflection, and hope is seeking new volunteers to help maintain its beauty and purpose. The Healing Garden, located at Northampton Cathedral (NN2 6AG), has become a meaningful space that hopes to reduce stress and anxiety and Improve individuals sense of well-being and hopefulness.

Created as part of the Diocese’s commitment to reaching out to those affected by abuse, the Healing Garden was initially created as a result of a collaborative effort between the Diocesan Safeguarding team, the Hope Centre, and the Healing and Reconciliation group. The garden stands as a symbol of care, renewal and compassion, offering visitors a quiet place to reflect.

It is nice to be outside in the Healing Garden. I think it’s an amazing resource for the Cathedral and it’s great to be apart of it.
Janet, Healing Garden Volunteer

To ensure the space remains welcoming and well-maintained, a small group of dedicated volunteers currently supports the work of the gardener. Their tasks include collecting leaves, weeding, tidying flower beds, cleaning benches and assisting with general light gardening duties.

We wanted to provide extra help to develop the Garden and we want to be able to help where we can… It is an excellent space of prayer and to work in this space particularly makes it also in a way a work of prayer in itself. There’s many reasons anyone may want to come here, to be in a place of peace, come and make friends and it is part of nature so being in touch with God’s work.
Paul, Healing Garden Volunteer

Those with an interest in gardening, who are reasonably fit and able to spare a few hours on Wednesday mornings, are encouraged to consider joining the team. Volunteering in the Healing Garden not only helps preserve a valuable community space but also offers individuals the opportunity to contribute to a meaningful cause.
