Tuesday evening saw the last of the Life In The Spirit seminars as over 150 participants joined in person, through a hub venue or online. The course consists of five evening sessions, a retreat day including baptism in the Holy Spirit.

Each evening Northampton Cathedral hosted the seminar input which was live streamed to seven hub churches across the diocese. Participants then broke into smaller groups for a time of faith sharing focussed on the theme for that evening. Throughout the course participants are supported by daily reflections.

The Life in the Spirit Seminars grew out of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal. In 2019, Pope Francis asked CHARIS International – the newly-established Catholic Church entity serving the worldwide Catholic Charismatic Renewal – to make the Baptism in the Spirit available around the world, to everyone in the Church.

Addressing the groups at the conclusion of the course, Bishop David said

“The catechism says that baptism is a ‘gateway for the Holy Spirit’ and that gateway has been flung wide open for you and you may jump through it or tentatively take a step through…”.

The Seminars were led by the Diocesan Catholic Charismatic Renewal team under the auspices of Bishop David Oakley and the Mission Northampton Team. The Diocesan Catholic Charismatic Renewal team is the expression at the diocesan level of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal International Service (CHARIS) set up to support the Catholic Charismatic Renewal around the world. Our team currently has 11 members, representing a variety of the different charismatic groups, communities and ministries in the Northampton Diocese.
