Bishop David’s private secretary, Fr Andrew Coy will shortly be departing our diocese and his role with Bishop David to take up the role of private secretary to the Papal Nuncio to Great Britain.

The Papal Nuncio, Archbishop Miguel Maury Buendia visited our diocese in July visiting Northampton and Luton. He blessed the new St Thomas Centre at the Cathedral and presided at the opening Mass to celebrate the Translation of the relics of Saint Thomas Becket.

The Apostolic Nuncio represents the Holy Father to the Church in UK. The role is equivalent to that of an ambassador representing the Holy See. The current Nuncio, Archbishop Miguel Maury Buendia was named by Pope Francis in April 2023. The role of private secretary involves general administration and organisation responsibilities as well as accompanying the Nuncio on visitations to dioceses.

When he announced the move, Bishop David said

“From a personal viewpoint, will miss Andrew very much. I am sure you will join with me in keeping him in prayer as he prepares to undertake this unexpected role”.

Fr Andrew will leave Bishop’s House on 15th October to move into the nunciature in Wimbledon
