Rite of Election 2023
Liturgy CommissionDiocesan Rite of Election 2023
The RITE OF ELECTION for the diocese will be celebrated in the Cathedral at 3pm on Sunday 26 February.
The readings for the Rite will be those of the First Sunday of Lent (A).
All Catechumens who are to celebrate the sacraments of Initiation at the Easter Vigil, and all Candidates who are to be received into full communion with the Catholic Church will be elected for the Easter Sacraments during this liturgy. They will be called forward according to your Pastoral Area as indicated in the liturgy booklet to sign her/his name individually in the Book of the Elect. Their sponsor will accompany them and present them.
Please complete the form below as soon as possible. So that names can be inscribed in the Book of the Elect we need all names by 8 February. An acknowledgement will be sent immediately. If you do not receive this within a week of sending your form contact us so that the names are inscribed in the Book.
If you have any problems completing the form below please Mgr Kevin McGinnell.
Please encourage as many people from your parish to come along in support of their new Catholics. An approximate number coming from your parish will help us with practical arrangements. Parishes may wish to share coaches/transport across a Pastoral Area.
The Rite is celebrated within a Liturgy of the Word. It is not a celebration of Mass.
