“We must fan the flame of hope that has been given us, and help everyone to gain new strength and certainty by looking to the future with an open spirit, a trusting heart and far-sighted vision. The forthcoming Jubilee can contribute greatly to restoring a climate of hope and trust as a prelude to the renewal and rebirth that we so urgently desire; that is why I have chosen as the motto of the Jubilee, Pilgrims of Hope”.

Pope Francis

27th March – 3rd April 2025

As part of our Pilgrims of Hope journey, you are invited to join our Diocesan family on pilgrimage in Rome and Assisi in March/April 2025.

Led by Bishop David Oakley, this pilgrimage will offer an opportunity to experience the Eternal City and the ‘Green Heart’ of Italy in the Jubilee Year.

Our Jubilee journey will lead us on the Jubilee of Hope pilgrimage walk
from the Castel Sant Angelo along a designated route to Saint Peter’s Square and then entering the Saint Peter’s Basilica through the Holy Door down the central part of the nave to the main altar / Confessio. This is where Bishop Thomas Leo Parker participated in all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council, held between in 1962 and 1965.

Other highlights will include participation in the Jubilee Mass, presided over by Pope Francis, which will celebrate the Missionaries of Mercy, of which Canon John Udris, Parish Priest of St Peter’s in Marlow is one.

In Assisi, Bishop David will celebrate Mass at the tomb of Blessed Carlo Acutis and a guided tour by one of the Friars of the Basilica of St Francis.

Due to the limited spaces, if a pilgrim is booking onto the Northern France pilgrimage in October 2024, they will not be able to book directly onto the Rome and Assisi pilgrimage but can be added to a waiting list.

Pilgrims can only book for a maximum of two people, any booking for a greater number should be directed to the tour operator.
