Pope Francis’ Apostolic Letter, Motu proprio “Aperuit illis”, published on 30 September 2019, the feast of St Jerome, establishes that “the Third Sunday in Ordinary Time is to be devoted to the celebration, study and dissemination of the Word of God”. This year the third Sunday falls on Sunday 22nd January

Reflecting on the importance of the Word of God, Bishop David said

“It is important for us to allow the Word of God to deepen these mysteries of faith within us to remind us that we are the Church. I have seen so often as a priest that God’s word has the power to change lives”

To celebrate this occasion, a Service of the Word will be celebrated in the
Cathedral at 3pm on Sunday 23rd January presided over by Mgr Kevin McGinnell. The service will be live streamed for those who cannot attend.
