Bishop David was delighted to be invited to participate in the Annual Mass of the Eastern Section of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, Lieutenancy of England and Wales. The Mass was celebrated in The Lady Chapel of the Cathedral Church of The Holy and Undivided Trinity, Ely, Cambridgeshire on the Feast Day of St Augustine of Canterbury on Saturday 27th May 2023.
The Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem is a Catholic order of Knighthoods the protection of the Holy See. The Pope is the Sovereign of the order.
The knights are distinctive in dress of white and black cloaks, emblazoned with the cross of Jerusalem in red, and the dames with their black lace mantillas.
The Order, according to their website, ‘Has at its heart an individual commitment to personal spiritual development with the collective endeavour of supporting the Church and Christian people across the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem – which includes Cyprus, Jordan and the Holy Land’.
Bishop David joined the Rt Rev Peter Collins, Bishop of East Anglia; Rev David Finegan, Parish Priest of the Catholic Church and Shrine of St Ethledreda, Ely and Fr Andrew Coy, his private secretary and priest of our diocese.
