The Sunday of The Word of God
On the third Sunday in Ordinary time, the Church celebrates the Sunday of the Word of God.
On the 30th September 2019, Pope Francis issued an Apostolic Letter in the form of a Motu proprio “Aperuit illis”. Within this personal edict, Pope Francis instituted ‘The Sunday of the Word of God’ to be held on the third Sunday of Ordinary time each year. This year it will be celebrated this Sunday, 24th January.
Our Church hopes that this Sunday will help to awaken an awareness of the importance of Sacred Scripture for our lives as believers, and its importance in our liturgy. This is offered through and emphasis on the homily where our deacons, priests and Bishops are asked to make scripture accessible to their communities, offering the faithful a time of reflective silence to enable mediation on what God is saying to each of us in our daily lives.
To celebrate, Bishop David will preside at a Service live from our Cathedral in Northampton at 3pm. During this service Bishop David will bless all readers who proclaim the Word of God in their parishes.
