National schools singing program

in the diocese of Northampton

What is the National Schools Singing Program?

The NSSP is open to all Catholic Diocese across the UK. The diocese of Northampton signed up to the program in Spetember 2022 and employed a Director of Music to build and enhance choirs in our schools and parishes. The open-access model of whole-class singing produces demonstrable diversity in take up of after-school choir places. This allows great inclusion for all, unlocking aspirations and broadening horizons across social, academic and cultural divides. These after-school choirs further develop children’s life in the Church, contributing to liturgical music in their parishes and schools.

Marcela Campaña leads the prgram and is currently working in schools enhancing the curriculum and engaging young people inschool choirs.

Bishop David Oakley, Bishop of Northampton welcomed Marcela to the diocese saying

“I am delighted to welcome Marcela to lead our schools singing program. I am especially keen that this program will give an opportunity to the disadvantaged across our diocese to engage in the life that music can bring”
